What I Learned Part 1

  • Tarring is pouring boiling hot tar on a victim's skin
  • Feathering is laying feathers all over the victim's body onto the tar
  • Tarring and Feathering was used for public humiliation
  • You could sign a sheet saying you would follow or get tarred and feathered
  • The protesters were seen as violent thugs to the British

What I Learned Part 2

  • The victims were British officials and american merchants
  • The colonist protesters didn't like the Tea Act or the Stamp Act
  • The colonists did this under Liberty trees
  • The people doing this to you could have been your neighbors

My Reaction

  • When I first found out about tarring and feathering, I was terrified.
  • Having boiling hot tar poured on you does not feel good at all!
  • Then, a bunch of feathers are lathered on for humiliation.
  • I would have just signed the sheet instead of going through that torture.
  • What were the victims thinking? They should follow all the other colonists.
