What is it?

  • The Bourgeois are often known as the middle class.
  • This ideal was first thought of by Karl Marx and continued growing from 1818-83

WHY IS IT CALLED THAT?

  • The term bourgeois arose in medieval France.
  • It then meant someone from a walled town.
  • In the 18th century, a middle class of professionals demanded change in government.
  • Bourgeois now meant hard workers.

IMPORTANCE

  • Marx thought that these people would rise up and revolutionize the government.
  • At the time there was a very small middle class, so the idea began to fade.
  • It also seeks the benefits of this modernization by exploiting the poor.
  • Thus creating tension.
