IT ACTS AS A RELAY CENTER CONNECTING THE BRAIN TO THE SPINAL CORD.

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • It is divided into 2 parts
  • The Central System(CNS)of the Nervous System has a brain and spinal cord.
  • The Peripheral System of the Nervous System has all the nerves that branch out of our spinal cords and brains.

THE CEREBRUM

  • The left and right hemisphere of the brain
  • Largest part of the brain
  • Interprets touch, vision, and hearing
  • In charge of emotion, reasoning, etc.

  • Personality, behavior, and emotions
  • Judgement, planning, and problem solving
  • Speech: speaking & writing
  • Body movements
  • Intelligence, concentration, and self awareness

HAS 3 PHASES: ENCODING, STORING, RECALLING

SHORT TERM MEMORY

  • Prefrontal cortex
  • Stores information for about 1 minute
  • Stores about 7 items

LONG TERM MEMORY

  • Processed in the hippocampus
  • Activated when you want to memorize something for a longer time
  • Unlimited content and duration
  • Personal memories as well as facts and figures

SKILL MEMORY

  • In the cerebellum
  • Relays information
  • Stores automatic learned memories
  • Example: playing a instruments
