THE CASTE SYSTEM

CASTE SYSTEM

  • Over many years, India had developed a structure based on a caste.
  • A Caste is a fixed social class into which a baby is born.
  • A Caste system-a social structure in which social class is inherited from one's parents.
  • at birth and does not change over a lifetime.

INDO-ARYAN SYSTEM

  • The caste system includes the Indo-Aryan system of four classes the Varnas.
  • The Varnas were not originally fixed at birth.
  • Next came the Kshatriyas made of warriors guards.
  • Then below them was the Vaishyas made of artist and bankers.
  • The members of the three highest classes were called "twice-born".

  • This meant that males from these classes could belong to the Vedic religion.
  • At the bottom of the classes were the shudras.
  • Untouchables:a class of workers below the sudras.
  • The higher classes would not see the untouchables with fear of being dirty.
  • In modern India, the untouchables were called a Dalits and calling them untouchables was illegal.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE CASTE SYSTEM

CASTE

  • Most of these caste were based on people.
  • Today there is about 2000 caste in the world.
  • Caste rules are also more rigid.

MEMBERS OF CASTE

  • They could only marry only members in the same caste.
  • A social event could only take place in ones caste.
  • They also could not develop talants.

  • But there patterns of lives was fixed.
  • However the caste system brought stability to the native.
  • It gave people sense to some of the people..
  • The system also allowed to kept people to follow their beliefs and skills.
