• Situated in 'swanky' hotel
• Holden cuts out his visits there
• 'All the phonies are coming in the window'

WAITING FOR LUCE

• Sits, waits and watches the 'phonies'
• Views them as another race/animals
• Reinforces his alienation
• Watches as if from above
• 'I watched the phonies for a while'

WHY LUCE

• Not a very good student adviser, just talked about sex
• Holden looks up to him
• Goes against Holdens view of innocence
• Holden wants to make him laugh
• 'I bored him a lot...he amused me, though'

LUCE

• Luce means light in Spanish
• He thinks that everyone who doesnt know about sex is gay

ADVICE

• Taken the place of Allie
• Coppies what he says
• 'A physical and sexual experience'
• 'So do I!'

UNUSUAL FRIEND

• Not Holden's usual friend
• 'He lost his virginity at 14'
• Lack of innocence

CHAPTER 20

AT THE BAR

• Holden gets 'drunk as hell' after Luce leaves the bar where he is lonely
• Pretends he got shot in the shomach again feeling 'wounded'
• The waiter doesn't pass on message

PHONE

• Holden calls Sally
• So drunk he has to dial 'about twenty times'
• She cares about him even though he was rude

CENTRAL PARK

• Holden goes to check on the ducks
• Gets so cold he thinks he's going to die of pneumonia
• Thinks of Allies death and grave
• Decides to visit Phoebe
