Maryland History is a new elective course at Catholic High that focuses on the state’s rich history. Historical topics of study include Maryland’s role as a tobacco colony, Maryland as a major player in numerous conflicts such as the War of 1812 and Civil War, as well as the evolution of Baltimore City. Time is spent understanding key events as well as important individuals that helped shape not only Maryland, but the whole country.

The Social Studies Department at Catholic High challenges students to understand what has shaped us from the past and from other cultures, what new ideas and technologies continue to shape us, what conflicts we must learn to resolve, who we have as heroes, and how we develop as individuals and as a nation.
