CONFLICT 1: SHIP TORPEDOED

  • In The Cay, Philip and his mother's ship gets torpedoed. The ship is sunk and Philip and his mother are separated.
  • In The Cay, Philip and his mother's ship gets torpedoed. The ship is sunk and Philip and his mother are separated.
  • This is Man vs Man
  • This is resolved when mother gets home safe and Philip gets on a raft.

CONFLICT 2: HURRICANE

  • In the middle of The Cay, Philip and Timothy's island is struck by a hurricane
  • This is an examople of Man vs Nature.
  • This resolved when the storm is over.

CONFLICT 3: EEL

  • Towards the end of the book, Philip is all alone on the island.
  • So he dives in a small fish hole to get some langosta.
  • When he is down there his hand is bitten by an eel.
  • This is an example of Man vs Nature
  • This is resolved when Philip escapes the eel's graspand swims to shore.
