:PHILLIP:

• 11 Years Old
• He lives in Virginia, but his dad works in Willemstead
• He and his mother sail on the Al Hato to North America
• The Al Hato is hit by a missile and sinks
• Phillip and his mom are separated on different safety rafts

• Phillip is on a raft with a man named Timothy
• Timothy is very old and black
• Phillip is taken care of by Timothy
• Timothy and Phillip get stranded on an island
• Timothy and Phillip have to survive

TIMOTHY

• Protected Phillip
• Saved Phillip from hurricane
• He and Phillip become good friends. He teaches Phillip to not give up and how to survive.
• Phillip dies after the storm passes.

My favorite character was Phillip because he was courageous and didn't give up hope that someone would find him.

The story begins in 1944 during World War II. Phillip and his mom tried to escape but, the ship was hit with a missile. Now, Phillip is on a raft with a black man named Timothy. He and Timothy have to survive on an island!

Timothy and Phillip have a diet of mussels, small fish, coconuts, rain water, and coconut milk.

Phillip and Timothy become friends and help each other survive. One day a huge hurricane comes and Phillip barely survives. Timothy sacrifices himself to let Phillip live.

Phillip has to live on his own and a few days later he is found! Phillip returns home to Virginia and his dad finishes his work so his whole family is re-united!
