This quote is lived in the rest of the book because Danny doesn't turn out to be what Reuven was expecting.
This quote connects with other ideas in The Chosen because Mr. Saunders makes it seem that people from other religions are so much different than them. But Danny realizes it differently when gets curious and does his research.
What I learned from David Malter about this quote is that he has been through struggling and interesting situations himself and now he is able to give advice to his son, Reuven.
