  • Pope Benedict XV suggested a cease fire on December 7, 1914
  • The Nation leader rejected it, but the soldiers stopped fighting anyway
  • As it got closer to Christmas, gun fire and shelling became less and less

  • On the 24th, enemies/allies came together and sang Christmas carols
  • On the 25th, they said "Merry Christmas" to eachother in their native tongue
  • They all shook eachothers hands once they realized it wasn't a trick
  • They exchanged cigarettes, plum puddings and they played soccer

  • Some took advantage of the cease fire to look for fallen soldiers
  • Some men were found but the noumber of how many couldn't be found

  • The truce only lasted for two days (Christmas Eve and Christmas)
  • In some areas, it extended until Boxing Day and New Years
