In 1956 To show defiance GA legislature changed the flag to include the confederate battle.

Hamilton and Charalayne were two student who both segregated GA's First public charter school
Lester Maddox 1915-2003
Brought into office in 1966.Did not believe in desegregation, but brought jobs for African American working for him.
Andrew Young
First African American congressman since reconstruction. President Jimmy Carter appointed him ambassador
Benjamin Mays (1894-1984)
Long time president of Moore house collage, also a mentor to M.L.K.
Sibley Commission
the report made by the Sibley Commission laid the foundation for the end of massive resistant to desegregation in the state and helped avoid a showdown between Vandiver and the federal government
Civil Rights Act of 1946
forbade discrimination on the basis of sex and race in hiring, promoting and firing.
The Voting Rights Act of 1965
prohibited states from imposing any voting qualification on voting or deny the right of any citizen of the U.S. to vote on account of color or race.
