The Cold War was the result of the rising tensions between the United States and Russia because they could not agree on how to rebuild Germany after WWII.

It is called the Cold War because a military battle never came to fruition, so the "heat" of gunfire never came into play. Instead, the war was fought with "Cold" political maneuvering and other measures.

Differences between Capitalism and Communism

1. Capitalism--you can own property
Communism--the government owns all property
2. Capitalism--you get health care and food if you can afford it
Communism--all have access to health care and food--if there is food available
3. Capitalism--free press
Communism--government owns the press
4. Capitalism--you earn more rewards if you invest in businesses
Communism--all have equal rewards

The Soviet Union responded to the containment plan by putting up a blockade of West Berlin.

The Kitchen Debate was basically about capitalism vs communism. Nixon taunted Kruschev with America's abundance of consumer goods which the Soviet Union lacked. In those days Americans bragged about the superiority of their kitchens while the Soviets bragged about the superiority of their rockets.
