Beginning

  • Rising tensions between Russia and US on the reconstruction of Germany.
  • US was a Liberal Democratic whereas Soviet Union was Totalitarian.
  • US was capitalistic whereas Soviet Union was Communist.
  • US was Free Market Economy whereas Soviet Union was Command Economy.
  • Both revolted against whose system was more dominant than the other.

How did the cold war get its name?
Since there was no gunfire to call it "hot", it was called called "cold" as it was fought through political maneuvering.

CAPITALISM

  • You can own property.
  • You get health care and food if you can afford it.
  • Free press (media)
  • You earn more rewards if you invest in business.

Communism

  • The government owns all property.
  • All have access to the health care and food.
  • Government owns the press.
  • All have equal rewards.

How did the Soviet Union respond to the U.S. policy of containment?
It responded by agreeing to the policy of cotainment. It can be proven as no other countries were influenced to embark on communism in their own given country.

Please explain what this debate between Nixon and Khrushchev illustrated?
The debate between Nixon and Khrushchev was about which was more superior, communism or capitalism. The two officials who were fighting in a US exhibition in Moscow in a modern kitchen.
