What did the Comanche Eat and how

  • Inapu, a food made of dried buffalo strips pounded together with buffalo fat and berries.
  • roasted or boiled buffalo [hunted buffalo on foot]
  • hunted other animals such as deer
  • nuts
  • berries
  • used a bow and arrow to hunt buffalo

Housing of the Comanche

  • Lived in Teepees
  • Lived in large groups, as large as 3,000 Comanche [ The groups were called bands]

Medicine and Health

Many died by diseases such as small pox that was brought in by settlers.
They also held a ritual called beaver ceremony to cure a sick member of the tribe. It included, drumming and singing of the medicine man.

Clothing
Girls and women wore: Buckskin dresses and moccasins.
Men and boys wore: A piece of cloth called a breechcloth.

Religion
The Comanche tribe believed in the great spirit, a God who created everything and was in all living things. They also did not gather often for ceremonies.

Comanche means "enemy"

Comanche spoke the language of Central Numic.
