THE CONQUEST OF SUMER

UMMA AND LAGASH

• The Summerian's city-state is Umma and Lagash
• Their soldiers were armed with bronze axes and long spears with sharp points

LAGASH

• The Lagash won the war and celebrated by bringing Umma down
• When all the Lagash went to Sumer they sold Sumerians as prisoners to be slaves.

WAR

• War was common between the city-state in Sumer
• For a(conquest occurs when one people defeats controls another's.)

KING

• A king had control of the defeated city
• If the king left too many soldiers or troops on the city,they would not be able to fight the war

SARGON THE GREAT

• Sargon the Great left the region just north of Sumer
• The region is called Akkad
• Sargon conquest the Sumerian and he joined all the Sumerians under his rule to create the first empire in Mesopotamia
• (An empire is a group of countries or people who are ruled by one government.)

SARGON'S AMRY

• Sargon's large,well-equipped army was a success for Sargon
• Fresh supplies of food was always something Sargon and his troops were always on the move looking for
• They used chariots for changing into battle
• (Chariots are wheeled war vechicle)

AKKADIAN

• Sargon conquered Akkadian empire after more than 50 years
• Sumerian invented things such as cuneiform writing,farming techniques,and even religion
• Where ever they go,they carried the seeds of civilization

SARGON'S EMPIRE

• Sargon's empire began to weaken when he died
• When the fierce Barbarians defeated the last Akkadain,Sargon the Great's empire fell apart

SUMER UNITED

• Sumer was united once again around 2100 B.C.
• Ur-Nammu kingdom fell apart after his death
• Barbarians attacked and destroyed Ur.around 2000 B.C.
