What Were They?

The Crusades were a series of religious wars caused by the pope and the church, never by the king. The first one was caused by Pope Urban ll leading the Christians, to take over Holy Land.

How Many Were There?

There was a total of 9 major Crusades. The first four of the Crusades were seen as the most important.

How Long Were They?

The First Crusades started in 1095 and the last Crusade ended in 1291. Overall the Crusades went from roughly 200 years.

Who Were They?

The Christians from the Western Europe (which was the biggest religion at the time) and the Muslims were both involved throughout the Crusades.

Their Purpose

The main purpose was for the Christians to take over the Holy land from the Muslims. By doing this they would gain power and property over the Muslims.
