EARLY LIFE

• The dalai lama was chosen at an early age
• He passed a series of tests that proved that he was the reincarnated dalai lama
• At three years old he was tested by monks. He was born in 1935 in Takster, Tibet
• At the age of five he started training
• He was enrolled in a tibetan school right after he was chosen

HIS LIFE AS A MONK

• He started ruling while still in school at the age of fifteen.
• He ended his studies at the age of twenty five receiving the highest honors available.
• He became more and more familiar with problems facing the buddhist community
• He became more familiar with traditions and ways.

CONFLICTS WITH CHINA

• Tensions rose between chinese and tibetan governments
• China wanted tibet as a province
• The tibetans revolted against china
• The revolt was crushed and many people were killed by chinese troops
• The dalai lama fled to the west into india with thousands of followers.
