THE DELAR BEAR

BY KRISTY OROST

The Delar Bear was found by scientists in the year 2030. The scientists came upon this animal in the Antarctic desert and didn't know what it was, after months of observing and comparing DNA, fossils and embryos, they found out what the creature is and what it's ancestor was.

The climate started getting hotter so the polar bears started loosing hair and adapting to the environment, when they reproduced the reduced hair trait got passed down, making the population of polar bears have less hair, and the bears with thick fur became extinct. As the water evaporated seals became extinct and the bears became thinner in their search for new prey. When they found prey it was hard to attack, after time their legs got stronger.

Over time the Delar Bear has thinner fur, less body fat, darker fur, new prey, a different way of hunting, no webbed feet, and stronger legs.

The Delar Bear's prey consists of ostrich, jack rabbit, meerkat, fox, and pronghorn. Because these animals can better defend themselves, the Delar Bear advanced with stronger legs and better camouflage for the desert. Its predators are caracal and hyenas, so to defend themselves they use their camouflage fur to hide in their surroundings.

The Delar Bear is similar to its ancestor the Polar Bear- only it has adapted to have darker fur, and less body fat.

The scientists decided to call the new animal the Delar Bear.
