At the center of the dome there is a rock which is the believed location of where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son. Now Muslims believe that the rock symbolizes the night journey of Muhammad.

The location of the Dome of the Rock is located in Jerusalem, sitting on the Haram al-Sharif, which is the highest point in Jerusalem.
History:
The Dome of the Rock is one of the first Islamic buildings to be built. It was built by Abd al-Malik between the years 685-691/2, it was built to be a religious focus point for his supporters.

- The Dome of the Rock contains an inscription 240 meters long
- Below the rock is a small chamber and no one knows why it's there to this day
- The Church of Holy Sepulcher and the Dome of the Rock have almost the same size domes.
