  • D - danger
  • R - response
  • A - airway
  • B - breathing
  • C - circulation

D - Danger

  • check to make sure there is no danger to anyone
  • you cannot help the casualty if you become one yourself
  • once area is safe you can help the casualty

R - response

  • Is the casualty conscious or unconscious?
  • if casualty is conscious, ask for their name 
  • if casualty is unconscious, call for help

A - Airway

  • Is the casualties airway clear of objects?
  • Is airway open?
  • it is essential to make sure it is open so that breathing is possible

B - breathing

  • Is chest rising and falling?
  • if the casualty is breathing, Check regularly for continued breathing
  • if the casualty is not breathing, signal for help

C - circulation

  • Can you feel a pulse?
  • feel neck or inner wrist for pulse
  • if no pulse, call for help
