the emperor's silent army

BY: Noura Abdelaziz

How did they found it?
One spring day, in a field in northern China, three farmers attempting to dig a well strike…something hard…with their shovels. Clearing away the dirt, the farmers found a pottery head of a man.

What did they found exactly?
What they found is one of the most dramatic discoveries of modern times. Buried underground, in vast pits, lies an entire, underground,
life-size, terracotta army.

What is terracotta army?
terracotta army or the silent army are figurines that have been resting underground, for about two thousand years. 7,500 soldiers in knee-length robes and armor, weighing hundreds of pounds each, all facing east.

What else was there?
Amazingly, no two faces are alike. There are young soldiers and older officers. Weary faces and eager faces. Horses and archers; swords, daggers, and battle-axes, still razor sharp.

Why they were under the ground?
The army was under the ground to guard the tomb of an ancient Chinese emperor, Qin Shihuang.

Who is Qin Shihuang?
Qin Shi Huang was the First Emperor of China, who ruled from 246 B.C to 210 B.C, he caused both incredible cultural and intellectual growth, and much destruction within China.
Whether he should be remembered more for his creations or his tyranny is a matter of dispute, but everyone agrees that Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, was one of the most important rulers in Chinese history.

What is Qin Dynasty?
Qin Dynasty was the first unified, multi-national and power-centralized state in the Chinese history. It lasted from 221 BC to 207 BC. Although surviving only 15 years, the dynasty held an important role in Chinese history and it exerted great influence on the following dynasties. It was ruled by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor in the Chinese history.
