Renewable Resources

  • A renewable resource is a natural resource which can be replenished. Peaches,Cherries and grapes. They are for eating and they can grow again.
  • Salmon is also a renewable resource. It's also a living animal.
  • Renewable resouces: Corn,Trees/Wood,Wheat,Air,Water, Cotton

Non-renewable Resources

  • A nonrenewable resource is a resource that cannot be readily replaced. Earth minerals and metal ores are examples of non-renewable resources. Coal & Copper are for mining. They are also non-living.
  • Natural gas is a non renewable resource
  • Iron ore,Gold,Salt,Metal,Aluminum

Resource Extraction

  • Peaches, cherries and grapes are picked by workers
  • Salmon is caught by fishermen
  • Coal and copper are mined by miners that use machines like drills!
  • Wood is cut down by loggers
  • Water collected from aquifers which are underground stores of freshwater

What is bad for the Environment ?

  • Coal and copper is bad for the environment because we drill big holes in the ground making a massive mess, causing erosion, sinkholes and contaminating water.
  • Over fishing
  • Endangering species by overextraction.
  • Cutting down too many trees which cause climate change.

Can we live without these resources?

  • We can't live without food like fruits, vegetables, fish, beef, pork and poultry etc or else we will starve to death
  • We also we can't live without trees because they provide oxygen and housing materials
  • We also need fossil fuels, coal ect. for electricity and heat

How are the Aboriginal People connected to the environment

Untitled Slide

  • They understand that if one part of the ecosystem is affected everything in the ecosystem is also affected.
  • They try to take from earth only what they need to survive.
  • They also try try to waste as little as possible.

How can we make our environment better

  • Sort our garbage and recycle better. Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Return!
  • Stop littering and polluting.
  • Kill less animals for food.
  • Drive cars less and bike or walk more.
  • Conserve water.
  • Reduce greenhouse emissions.

Why is sustainability important for us?

  • It is important for us so we don't run out of food and other resources for other people in the future.
  • Ex:Trees we can't cut all of them down or we won't have oxygen, home for birds and wood supplies

Stages of the rock cycle

  • Igneous rock forms from magma (lava)
  • Igneous rock on surface is exposed to erosion and weathering, wind, rain, ice, snow break down the rock. The sediments harden into sedimemtary rock

Rock cycle

  • Layers form on top of the sedimentary rock. The pressure and heat turns the rock into metamorphic rock.Continued heat and pressure turns it back to magma.

How do we create Electricty

  • Power stations need large amount of energy to turn the turbines driven by wind, water, steam or burning gas. Most use heat energy produced by coal.
  • Water Energy is captured from the movement of water like large dams. A wind turbine converts the wind's kinetic energy into electrical power.

How do we create Electricity

  • Fossil fuel power plants burn coal, oil or gas to generate steam to drive the turbine to generate electricity.
  • Natural gas: turbines are driven directly by gases produced by combustion.

FUN FACTS!!!!

Kaelyn & Alicia's fun facts

  • Did you know The chemical for gold is Au from Latin arum witch means shining dawn
  • Did you know If it can't grow it has to be mined or recyled
  • DId you know a microcoating gold reflects solar energy and reduces the demand of air conditioning
  • Did you know Gold will not rust
