Summary for chapter 4 Gilgamesh continues on his journey, mourning his friend Enkidu. Then he came across the mountains of Mashu. This had a tunnel in which the sun traveled every night. Scorpions guarded the door, but he passed them easily. In the tunnel, he traveled many leagues into darkness. When he emerged, he found himself in a paradise by the sea. A woman takes him to her house and nourishes him. When he leaves, he meets an old man, named Urshanabi. Urshanabi helped him cross the sea of Death, by helping Gilgamesh make a special boat and 120 oars. While they are rowing, Urshanabi tells Gilgamesh a story.
