BLOODY SUNDAY

  • January 5th, 1905
  • Tsar's troops gunned down group of demonstrators
  • Led by Father George Gapon
  • To appeal to the Tsar for improved working conditions
  • and establishment of an assembly

UNREST DUE TO WARS

  • RUSSO-JAPANESE WAR 1904/5:
  • when the Tsar stepped out of the war resulted by paranoia,
  • the Russians grew angry for wasted opportunity
  • LED TO RUSSIAN REVOLUTION IN 1905 & FAILED DUMA
  • WWI; scarce food & dying civilians

LENIN'S COMEBACK

  • Germans secretly transported exiled Vladimir Lenin
  • They hoped to have his return to instigate the turmoil
  • Lenin took control over the Tsar's Bolsheviks
  • He led them to a successful overthrowing of Tsar Nicholas II

ELIMINATION OF THE TSAR

  • On the night of July 16, Tsar Nicholas II was told to dress for an impromptu
  • photograph to stop rumours of his escape after the wars' defeat
  • Soldiers then suddenly opened fire at him and his wife and 5 children
  • along with 4 servants
  • Any survivors would then choked to death from the smokes of the fire
