A setting in the novel would be the church during support group, where Hazel first met Augustus.
The most important setting in my opinion would be Amsterdam, because it's where Hazel and Augustus really connected and you actually see that for the first time in a way.
And last but not least, both Hazel and Augusts spent a significant amount of time in the hospital throughout the novel.
.) Hazel's mom decides she is depressed, and makes her go to a support group for cancer patients.
.) When Hazel & Augustus meet in group, where Gus' shares his fear of oblivian.
.)When Hazel notices Gus' with a cigarette in his mouth, and gets upset. Then Gus explains it's a metaphor and Hazel ends up going home with him.
.) When Hazel introduces Gus' to her personal favorite book, An Imperial Affliction.
.) When Gus calls Hazel a few days later and let's her know he enjoyed the book.
.) When Hazel goes to the mall with her friend Kaitlin, but debates with herself on telling her friend about Gus'.
.) As a whole when Gus' & Hazel start spending more noticeable time together is pretty important to the story.
.) When Gus tells Hazel that Houten's assistant has responded to his email, and he brings up the make a wish foundation because he wants to use his wish to take Hazel & himself to Amsterdam to meet Van Houten.
.) When Hazel has to go to the hospital because her lungs are filling with liquid. In this time she finds out that this could ruin her chances of going to Amsterdam.
.) When Hazel is cleared by her doctors to go to Amsterdam. Hazel's mom, Gus, & Hazel all attend the trip.
.) When they reach Amsterdam and Hazel & Augustus go on dates; where Hazel tastes champagne for the first time.. She refers to it as "stars".
.) When Hazel & Gus meet Van Houten, only to realize he is an arrogant drunk man who they take pity for.
.) When Gus & Hazel go to the Anne Frank house together and they kiss in front of people for the first time.
.) When Hazel and Gus go back to the hotel room together and he tells her he has cancer again.
.) When Gus and Hazel drink more champagne on the flight home.
.) When Hazel visits Gus at his house because he's so sick that all he does is sleep all the time.
.) When Gus calls Hazel around 4am to ask for her help, because he went to the store alone to buy a pack of cigarettes and his tube fell out.
.) When Gus calls Hazel and tells her to write an obituary and meet him where they have support group. Upon arriving, Hazel realizes Gus is having a post-funereal so he can "attend his own funereal".
.) Hazel receives another 4am phone call, only to find out Gus passed away. (8 days after his post-funereal)
.)While attending Augustus' funereal Hazel realizes Van Houten is also attending.
.)Almost done with important events, while playing video games with Isacc he tells Hazel about how Gus had been writing something for her. Thus begins her search for what he had written.
.) Lidewij finds Gus's missing last words and emails them to Hazel, ending the novel.
My personal rating of this book is a 10- because of the depth and thought put into it, not to mention the thought I myself went into while reading it.
Readers that enjoy deeper thoughts than the average everyday life, or normal dramas would like this book; in my opinion.
