The Fight for Marijuana

How much do you really know?

The active ingredient in marijuana is tretrahydrocannabinol (THC)

The Supreme Court does not want to legalize marijuana due to association with abnormal recreation drugs like methamphetamine or heroin.

Marijuana is natural and does not have any chemicals added to make it addictive, unlike cigarettes.

By teens choosing marijuana over alcohol or cigarettes, they are making a healthier decision for their bodies.

"Teens are going to try at least one drug in their lifetime." -Kristen Gwynne

By rightfully educating teens about drugs instead of exaggerating effects to scare them away, giving them the truth about each drug can give them a better education of how to use them correctly if they are one who will try one eventually anyway. Thus, overdose and complications from improper use rates decrease.

Since marijuana does not kill brain cells and it is not addictive, teens would choose that over any more harmful drug if education came before use.

Teens have the ability to think for themselves and make their own decisions.

The use of marijuana may not prevent or cure any illness, but it can calm symptoms and reduce patients' suffering.

Smoking marijuana slows the formation of cancer.

Anyone who stereotypes marijuana smokers usually refer to them as: Potheads, hippies, stoners, lazy, or losers.

The fact is, it is not marijuana's fault if a user becomes lazy. It is the users fault. Although marijuana is classified as a sedative, people who habitually smoke marijuana are still able to make decisions. Not all "potheads" are lazy losers. For example, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs both smoked marijuana and even took LSD. Look where their lives ended up. Two of the richest men in the world and they WORKED to get there.

When marijuana is associated with drugs like meth or heroin, it is not recognized that marijuana does not screw up your brain like those drugs do. Pot doesn't make you crazy, it can help you relax and even help people with appetite problems.

The active ingredient in marijuana, THC, is the ingredient that "gets you high". When you are told that smoking marijuana kills brain cells, they are wrong. THC doesn't kill brain cells. What it does do is this: in your brain, you have cannabinoid receptors. These receptors allow for things like short-term memory, coordination, learning, and problem solving to work properly. THC mimics the actions of anandimide which is the neurotransmitter that activates the cannabinoids that your body naturally produces. These functions are only slowed while high on marijuana. THC doesn't kill brain cells, it changes the chemical makeup of anandimide and the way your cannabinoids work, but only if you smoke marijuana all day long for 5 days.

Smoking marijuana isn't deadly like alcohol and cigarettes. Even if you smoke too much. Alcohol and cigarettes are legal. So why isn't marijuana?
