FACTS

  • This took place September 5, 1774, until October 26.
  • It took place at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia.
  • Over 100 delegates attended.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS

  • At this gathering, people debated, Patrick Henry believed violence was the answer, but many disagreed.
  • They compromised, and drafted the Declaration of Rights, which was to be represented to King George.

WHO WAS THERE?

  • Delegates from each colony, except Georgia were present.
  • Some people that were there were: Patrick Henry, John Adams, James Madison, and James Monroe, along with 90 other delegates.
  • Members were of elite standards.

WHY IT TOOK PLACE

  • This took place in response to the Intolerable Acts, which was imposed on Boston as punishment for the Boston Tea Party.
  • They wrote many letters, but the king ignored them.
  • They planned to meet again in May of 1775 if the British did not meet their demands.
