PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CLASSIFICATION

THE FIVE KINGDOMS

TYPES OF LIVING THINGS

  • There are many types of organisms living on the Earth:
  • Some of them are unicellular and the most complex ones are pluricellular
  • Some of them live in water and some live on land.
  • Some of them produce their own food but some eat other organisms.
  • Some organisms reproduce sexually and others reproduce asexually.

Untitled Slide

  • Scientists need to organize these different types of organisms into groups: the five kingdoms.

VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES

  • In the animal kingdom, there are two main groups of organisms: vertebrates and invertebrates.

VERTEBRATES

  • Animals with a backbone and an internal skeleton called endoskeleton.
  • Examples: mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds.

INVERTEBRATES

  • Animals without a backbone. Some of them have a external skeleton called exoskeleton (insects, crabs, lobsters)
  • Some others don't have exoskeleton (jellyfish)
