THE STATEMENT OF FAITH

  • Muslims state their faith at least once in their life
  • "There is no God but God, and Muhammmad is his prophet"
  • They say it when they accept Islam
  • They say it in their daily prayers

THE DAILY PRAYER

  • Muslims pray 5 times a day
  • Before sunrise, midday, late afternoon, right after sunset, before bed
  • At each time, call goes out from mosque, inviting muslims to pray
  • Muslims try to pray together at mosques
  • Believe prayer is proof someone has accepted Allah

THE YEARLY DONATION TO CHARITY

  • Muslims must pay money to religious official
  • The money is used to help poor, build mosques, or pay debts
  • Helping/caring for others is important in Islam

FASTING

  • Muslims fast daily during holy month of Ramadan
  • Qur'an says Allah began his revelations to Muhammad in this month
  • During Ramadan, Muslims won't eat/drink from dawn=>sunset
  • They believe fasting = way to show that God is more important then their own body
  • Fasting also reminds them of people in the world who struggle to get enough food

  • Muslims must travel to Mecca at least once if they can
  • Kaaba, in Mecca, is Islam's most sacred place
