FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

FAITH

• Must testify to a statement of faith.
• "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
• It is a brief prayer proclaiming the oneness of God

PRAYER

• Pray 5 times a day
• Face the holy city of Mecca while praying
• They do this at a place of worship called mosque

CHARITY

• Believe they have a responsibility to support the unfortunate
• Give money to the unfortunate
• It is not regulated but people do it out of sincerity

FASTING

• During Islamic holy month, Muslims don't eat or drink
• They don't eat or drink between sunrise to sunset
• Reminds them that there are more important things than eating
• Also a sign of self-control and humility

PILGRIMAGE

• The pilgrimage is at Mecca
• Muslims are expected to go there at least once in their lifetime
• It is a journey to a sacred place or shrine
