  • Muslim: Surrender to God
  • The Shahada: First thing a baby hears
  • Also the last thing a Muslim hears before death

Salat

  • Wudu: Ritual washing
  • Muslims face the qiblah
  • A muezzin calls to prayer
  • Muslims can be anywhere, but prefered at a mosque
  • Allahu akbar: God is most great
  • An imam leads the prayer

Zakat

Charity/Almsgiving

Zakat

  • Muslims donate 1/40 of their money above a minimum amount called nisab
  • Believed to purify wealth
  • Muslims thank God for what they have
  • Zakat means "purification"
  • Used for important needs like shelter and supporting hospitals

SAWM

FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

  • No food or drink during the day
  • Encourages generosity, equality, and charity
  • Ramadan is month Muhammad recived Gods message
  • Each night, Muslims pray and a part of the Qur'an is read
  • Travelers and those unable to fast don't have to

HAJJ

PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA

HAJJ

  • Muslims must go at least once in their life
  • They circle the Ka'bah 7 times counterclockwise
  • Men walk and women run between the two hills Hagar did
  • Muslims pray at Mount Arafat
  • HAJJ is five days long
