THE FOUR MEMBRANES

MUCOUS MEMBRANE

  • Found in: gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, reproductive tracts, and urinary tracts.
  • Function: prevents pathogens and microbes from entering the body.
  • Also holds blood vessels that supply blood and nutrients to epethlial.

SEROUS MEMBRANE

  • Location: liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, ect.
  • Function: secrete a lubricant called serous fluids that allows the organs
  • To glide against other structures without causing friction.

CUTANEOUS MEMBRANE

  • Location: skin
  • Function: protects the body from invading pathogens and microbes
  • Stores fat, vitamin D, and water.

SYNOVIAL MEMBRANE

  • Location: freely moveable joints such as (shoulder, elbow and knee)
  • Function: secretes synovial fluid to lubricate the joint space,making motion easier
