The French and Indian War

1754-1763

The French and Indian War

  • A constant war between British and French.
  • Most Indians joined the French during the war.
  • British kept on failing to push away the French.
  • Finally in 1759 the British captured Canada. 
  • In 1763 the French and British signed a peace treaty. 
In this peace treaty the French declined from the war, and gave Great British Canada.

A line between the land

The Proclamation of 1763

  • Indians didn't want British on their land.
  • British didn't want Indians on their land.
  • So the government created a line between the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Indians on the west side of the Mountains. British on the east.
  • The problem is there were already British settlers on the Indians land.

The Stamp Act

The Stamp Act

  • British had to pay for the war so they created The Stamp Act.
  • This act is based on paper.
  • Each paper, letter, newspaper, etc... 
  • You had to pay a price

The Quartering Act

The Quartering Act

  • British troops staying under your housing.
  • Providing soldiers with bedding.
  • ...with food.
  • ...with cooking utensils.
  • etc...

the Townshend Acts

1767

The Townshend Acts

  • A law of taxing certain goods.
  • Example:
  • Tea
  • Glass
  • Paper..etc...

The Boston Massacre

March 7, 1770

The Boston Massacre

  • Townshend act infuriated the British colonists.
  • Colonist surrounded soldiers trying to provoke them.
  • Colonist started throwing snowball with rocks.
  • A soldier fired a warning shot and was knocked to his feet.
  • The rest of the British soldiers fired at the colonists.
In the shooting 11 colonists got injured. Sadly 5 colonists passed away.

The Intolerable Acts

1774

The Intolerable Acts

  • This act was to get back at the colonists for disproving the new laws.
  • The Boston Harbor was shut down until colonists paid for the tossed tea.
  • You couldn't have a meeting without a governor’s permission.
  • British soldiers who were accused of murder would be tried in England.
  • More British Soldiers were sent to Boston to enforce the new laws.
