WHO WERE THE FUALNI?

  • The Fulani were an ethnic group located in sub- Saharan Africa
  • Mainly consisted of people who kept herds for cattle in West Africa
  • They are the largest migratory ethnic group in the world

WHY WERE THEY SIGNIFICANT?

  • Originally, the Fulani were peoples who held occupations as cattle herders
  • In the 17 century, the Fulani moved into settled cities, they observed a strict form of Islam
  • led a series of military campaigns to establish Islamic states and spread Islam
  • Their intent was not to stamp out African Religion, nor eliminate indigenous elements
  • Established powerful states such as Guinea, Senegal, Mali, and northern Nigeria today

FULANI TODAY

  • Fulani numbers stand at around 30 million all across Africa
  • They continue to be extremely nomadic and practice their own form of Islam
  • Continue to be very courageous, brave, and hardworking people
