THE GIVER CHAPTERS 3-5

• Main Idea- When you are deprived of the natural world your whole life, you don't know what it is when you see it.
• ''Does anything seem strange to you? about the apple?''
• Jonas is clueless on what color is.

Chapters 6-8

• Main Idea- Memories should be kept away in order to prevent bad things from happening.
• Quote- ''You will be trained to our new receiver of memory. We thank you for your childhood'' (Lowry 64)
• Jonas will have to hold all the memories from the community.

Chapters 9-12

• Main Idea- The real world is much better when it is not dried out.
• Quote- ''But it was so much fun!'' (Lowry 83)
• He understands what the real world used to be and how fun it could be. The elders have taken away everything from the natural world such as color and animals.
