IN THE BEGINING...
built in London, England
was built during 1599
was built by a company that Shakespeare had a stake in
built by a carpenter named Peter Smith and his people
was built to hold several thousand people

the theatre was open air theatre
it sat up to 3,000 people
there was three levels
regularly showed up to 10 plays every two weeks
plays often had special effects such as acrobatics and even fireworks
they flew different colored flags indicating the play that would be going on

the original globe theatre was burned to the ground
the new one was built in 1997
tours are offered

without a roof, many times plays would be canceled because of weather
some of the plays would be recognized today (Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, etc.)
it was probably the only popular form of entertainment that royalty attended
many costumes were sold after shows to pay for new ones
