THE GOLDEN CALF

• Moses was delayed in coming down from the mountain
• The people started to lose faith in him because he was gone for so long
• The people took all of their gold belongings and melted them into a calf
• Aaron built an altar for them to worship the calf
• The altar was used for burnt sacrifices to the false god

• The Lord was angry at the people for worshipping the false god
• The Lord told Moses to go down the mountain
• Moses went down to the people and brought down 2 tablets
• The tablets were engraved with the covenant by God

For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. (‭Exodus‬ ‭32‬:‭23‬ KJV)

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the Lord; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin. (‭Exodus‬ ‭32‬:‭30‬ KJV)

RELIGIOUS TRUTHS

• The people disobeyed the first commandment
• This truth is present because the people started to worship the golden calf
• We are told that God is the only God and nothing else should go above him
