PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • mostly brown feathers
  • golden feathers on back go head and neck
  • adult wingspan- 2m
  • adult height- 75 to 100cm
  • females larger than males

HABITAT/ TERRITORY

  • Northern Hemisphere
  • territories - as large as 155square km
  • large nests - soft vegetation

  • claws

REPRODUCTION

  • monogamus
  • mate, March-August
  • courtship, December
  • lay 1-4 eggs, white with reddish-brown 
  • hatch at different times

  • medium sized creatures: rabbits, hares, etc.
  • also eat other birds, reptiles, fish
  • eat animals larger than itself
