PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • mostly brown feathers
  • gold feathers on back of head and neck
  • adult wingspan - 2m
  • adult height - 75 to 100cm
  • females are larger than males

HABITAT/ TERRITORY

  • Northern Hemisphere
  • territory - up to 155 square km
  • large nests-soft vegetation

  • claws

  • swift

REPRODUCTION

  • monogamus
  • mating, March-August
  • courtship, December
  • lay 1-4, white with reddish-brown spots
