THE GREAT COMPROMISE

THE VIRGINIA PLAN

  • The Virginia plan was proposed by James Madison, Edmund Randolph, and other Virginia delegates on May 29th, 1787.

THE VIRGINIA PLAN

  • The Virginia plan gave government more power. It made 3 branches of government. Legislative (made laws) Executive (enforced laws) Judicial (interpreted laws).

THE VIRGINIA PLAN

  • The conflict of the Virginia plan was that the smaller states were unhappy because their population was smaller.

THE NEW JERSEY PLAN

  • The New Jersey plan was proposed by William Paterson on June 15th 1987.

THE NEW JERSEY PLAN

  • The New Jersey plan gave more power to the states not so much the government. This made the smaller states happy unlike the Virginia plan.

THE NEW JERSEY PLAN

  • The conflict with the New Jersey plan was that the larger states were unhappy because they had a bigger population.

THE GREAT COMPROMISE

  • The delegates agreed with a plan that would make both small and large states happy. The Great Compromise. This made each state have equal votes. It made everyone happy.
