The beginning

•The Great Depression started after WWI

Stock MARKETS crashed

  • This caused the beginning of the Great depression
  • Happened on Tuesday, October 29 also known as "Black Tuesday"
  • Many people lost money due to this

Financial collapse

  • Uneven distribution of wealth
  • Overproduction by business and agriculture
  • Many Americans were buying less
  • American factories were turning out half of the world’s industrial goods

Inflation

  • Money became worthless
  • Started to produce too much money
  • People had to carry a barrel to buy one loaf of bread
  • Children started playing with money instead of toys 
  • People wallpapered their houses with money

Shocks the world

•The American depression shocks the world as it spreads

No jobs

•Most of the middle class had no jobs to support family members.

People needed money

•People became desperate for money so they sold their things.

•People everywhere were looking for jobs

No food

•People had to line up for food

Franklin D. Roosevelt

•The first president elected after the depression had begun

The New Deal

  • Franklin R. started the New Deal
  • Helped provide jobs for the unemployed
  • Agencies gave financial help to businesses/farms
  • Public money spent on welfare & relief programs

The new deal

•Helped revive people from the Great Depression
