Postwar europe

  • After World War 1 many European country's went bankrupt. 
  • 1914 to 1918 Europe's last absoulute ruler was overthrown. 

Unstable new democracies

  • Wars end caused many new democratic governments to rise.
  • 1914 to 1918 Europe's last absoulute ruler was overthrown. 
  •  coalition government is a group of many political party's
  • forming a temporary truce to run the government.

The Weimar Republic

  • Germany's new democratic republic was made in 1919 this government was
  • called the Wiemar republic.
  • Most citizens blamed the new government for there war time loses.

Inflation Causes Crisis in Germany

  • Germany did not increase taxes to pay for war they printed money. 
  • 1923 people were taking wheel barrels full of money to buy food.
  • Germany was also forced to pay reparations to the allies for war damages.

Attempts at Economic Stability

  • 1923 Germany recovered from inflation thanks to Charles Dawes.
  • The Dawes plan loaned Germany $200 million. 
  • 1924 the Dawes plan was put into affect.
  • by 1929 Germany was producing things just as much as before the war.

Efforts at a Lasting Peace

  • 1925 France and Germany leaders met to strengthen relations   
  • between the two country's both signed a treaty they would never war again.
  • 1928 the "spirit of locarno"  led to the Kellogg-Brand peace pact.
