Part of the Action
As soon as the eye of the hurricane went through Miami city, the hurricane died down. The unsuspecting new comers (due to the 1920s boom) thought that the hurricane was over, left their shelter and went into the streets of Miami only to find that the weather conditions increased to the same, if not worse, conditions as before. Those who were in the open fell victim to flying debris. Others who had tried to leave the city while weather was calm died due to the waves that crashed into the city. In the end, most of the casualties happened after the hurricane hit the city.
