PRESENTATION OUTLINE
We have all seen the scene in Finding Nemo were Dori and Marlin go into a pitch black part of the ocean and find an angler fish. But this part of the ocean is not that simple.
This part of the ocean is called the hadal zone which is short for hadalpelagic zone the deepest and most forbidding place on earth.
so What is the hadel zone?
- The hadel zone is the deepest zone of the ocean
- It spans from 20,000 feet to the deepest part of the ocean
- The zone is named after the Greek god Hades
- More people have been to the moon than the hadel zone
- But down there the pressure is immense at 8 tons a square inch
how do you survive?
- Meio Dwarfism reduces size of fish by 40%
- Fish are red because red is harder to see than black
- Bioluminsence creates light to see and hunt
- Sharks have 6 gills because the oxygen is a century old
- A protein called piezolytes protect the fish from the pressure
Did you know that these adaptations are found in everyday fish?Recently scientists have found piezolytes in British warm water shrimp and they can resist crushing pressures even though they don't have too.
Only 5% of the ocean has been explored under the waves and earth is 70% water. So, what are the possibilities? An anti-cancer drug, new elements and more.Who knows?
Recently, a snail has been found with a shell that can change armor.
