The Beginning

• Liu Bang was a commander of the Chinese troops
• Liu Bang restored order to China during the Warring States time period
• He was the founder and first emperor of the Han Dynasty
• Liu Bang named the dynasty Han to honor his home land

Han Wudi

• Han Wudi (The Martial Emperor) created an Imperial University 
• This University was used to prepare young men for government service
• His foreign policy was very strong, to promote imperial expansion
• Northern Vietnam, and Korea were invaded by the Han
• These new countries were forced to abide by Han Rule

Land & Reform

• Small landowners could not cultivate as many crops as large landowners
• Most land was sold away due to high taxes and debts
• Wang Mangs reforms revolved mostly around land and its owners
• The amount of land a person could own was limited
• Large estates were broken up
