THE BEGINNING

• Liu Bang was the founder of the Han Dynasty
• It was called the Han in honor of his native land.

HAN WUDI

• An imerial university was put in place by the "Martial Emperor"
• This university prepared young men for government service.
• He invaded Korea and Northern Vietnam forcing them into Han rule.
• He ruled both lands with a Chinese style government.
• His foreign policy focused on expansion.

LAND/REFORM

• Landowners faced problems with high taxes, debt and poor harvests.
• Under the circumstances, some landowners had to sell their property.
• The most important reform made was that concerning land.
• The land reform limited the the amount of land one family could have.
• Large estates were broken up and redistributed.
