HOPI ACTIVITIES

• Hopi people made containers to hold water and food
• In addition they shaped clay into pots
• They also used natural resources to make clothing
• The Hopi grew cotton to wove into robes and blankets

WHAT THE HOPI BELIEVED

• They believed they were meant to be caretakers
• As caretakers they had to keep the land healthy
• If they kept the land healthy they would have a successful harvest
• And enough rainfall
• Caretaking includes prayer and yearlong calendar of ceremonies

THE HOPI TODAY

• Modern Hopi still follow their culture traditions
• Most hopi live in villages in the southwest
• They continue to take part in dances and ceremonies
• They are also skilled at making traditional pots, weaving baskets and silver jewelry
