Learn about the human heart!!!

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Introduction
Hello I am Dr. Kaiser, I am here from Stamford Hospital. I thought it would be a good idea to come here and give you some knowledge on the human heart. There are many fascinating facts about the heart such as how it beats 72 times per minute, meaning it beats about 100,000 times a day. Also the heart is one of the most important organs and muscle in the human body. And every day, the heart creates enough energy to drive a truck 20 miles. In a lifetime, that is equal to driving to the moon and back! How neat is that?! Well I hope you all enjoyed my time with you, I surely enjoyed talking to you all. Thank you for having me.

How does the heart beat? Electricity. Special cells called the pacemaker, it makes an electric charge by moving negative charged atoms across the cells membrane. That causes the chambers of the heart to squeeze. The heart fills up with blood before it beats. Next the muscle makes the heart squirt out the blood. Our heart does this all day and night.

How does the heart send oxygen? The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the systemic circulation and the left atrium receives oxygenated blood. Since the right atrium has deoxygenated blood it goes through the lungs to get oxygen then it goes to the right side and continues to be sent all over the body; this process is repeated constantly.

What is the heart made of?
The heart is a very speacial muscle. A membranous bag called pericardium, it surrounds the heart.

A normal resting heart rate for adults is 60 to 100 beats a minute. A well trained athlete might have a normal resting rate to 40 beats per minute. If you want to check your pulse simply place three index fingers on your neck to the side.
