  • The role has evolved and improved greatly. Need to know "from whence we came" and develop understanding and appreciation
  • Educate administrators, teachers, parents, school boards, community to why school counselor role is vital to school and student achievement

  • Early 1900s Frank Parsons "Father of Guidance"
  • 1920s John Dewey cognitive developmental movement
  • 1930s E.G.Williamson, first vocational guidance counseling theory = trait & factor theory
