DEMOCRITUS

He was an Ancient Greek philosopher kgnown for his influence on modern science more than any other pre-Socratic philosopher. He had an experiment around the 5th century BCE showings that if he kept cutting something smaller and smaller will it continue to infinite or would it become the smallest piece ever possible.

JOHN DALTON 1766-1844AD

he stated that all matter is made of atoms and that atoms are indivisible and indestructible. He also said all atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties. In 1803 he came up with this theory with some help of experimenting with gasses.

ERNEST RUTHERFORD 1871-1937AD

In 1911 he had a discovered the nucleus. He tested Thomson's hypothesis by devising his "gold foil" experiment. He reasoned that if Thomson's model was correct then the mass of the atom was spread out throughout the atom.

NIELS BOHR 1885-1962AD

In 1913 he had proposed a theory for the hydrogen atom based on quantume theory that energy is transferred in certain well defined quantities. He also said electrons should move around the nucleus but only in prescribed orbits (Bohr's model) one experiment that led him to his discovery was the emission spectrum of hydrogen.

J.J THOMSON 1856-1940AD

In 1897 he had discovered negatively charged electrons and also envisioned atoms as a "positively charged sphere with electrons embedded in it." One experiment that let to his discovery was the Thomson atomic model "plum pudding model"
